A Sociology of the Transnational Legal Field of Nuclear Nonproliferation

This project will produce a landmark study of the emergent transnational legal order of nuclear nonproliferation.

It seeks to answer:

• How have the social characteristics of the actors (institutions and transnational networks involved in the regulation of global financial flows) influenced the creation of new norms in the field of nonproliferation?

• Which legal technologies and which discursive and calculative practices have they developed to impose their authority and their power on the regulation of global financial transactions?

By providing a sociological analysis of the actors, institutions, networks, technologies and discourses, it will contribute to pressing policy debates on the legitimacy of emerging global governance mechanisms.
